color pairing with pantone's color(s) of the year 2016

In early December, Pantone released their semi-annual Fashion Color Report for Spring 2016, along with their annual Color of the Year

Pantone created one set of top colors for Spring 2016, instead of two - one for women and one for men, shown above. In another departure from routine, Pantone named two colors as Color of the Year - Rose Quartz and Serenity. Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute describes the colors as follows:

Joined together Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.

While I am not sure about wearing the winning colors together, I think that they have potential separately to blend well with neutrals. Let's start with Rose Quartz.

This shade is soft and feminine. Keep it pretty versus sugary sweet with silvery grays, taupe, and mousy browns. This shade will also look lovely with whites and light denim.

Rose Quartz reads beautifully in accessories, like chunky, statement bracelets or pale, fresh nail polish. For clothing, I like it as a structured piece, like a double-breasted blazer, again to cut the sweetness.

Next up, we will look at Serenity.

I have to admit when I saw Serenity, it reminded me of one of the colors I used in the palette for this site! Its airy quality is perfection. This shade pairs well with indigo, navy, and midnight blue. It also uplifts whites and caramel.

Serenity is a perfect tone for a soft, warm sweater. In the accessory department, it makes for an unexpected yet joyful color choice in a luxurious loafer
